Series 3 - Fashion Eccentrics of 2011

THE EDGE

I can honestly say that 2011 has been the year of the “Fearless Statement". Eclectic jewelry, outrageous nails, Shoes of all shapes and sizes and chunky rings to boot. So naturally the wild child rainbow bright hair fits in perfectly.

The "color your tips trend" has been one of my favorites this year. It's fun, bold, daring and yet fabulous. It's something i'm still dying to do.

It's just a fun little edgy look , it's nothing serious or life changing but it looks really cool ( in my opinion). Pink, blue , yellow , green, multi colour.

One my favourite trends of 2011

Series 2 - the fashion eccentrics of 2011

"Zombie Boy"

Rick Genest aka Zombie boy has a become a fashion sensation during this past year, people have become smitten with him.Genest has tattooed about 80% of his body in such a way to portray the idea of the decaying corpse and horror.

He has featured in lady Gaga's music video born this way and has featured in many magazine editorials this year.

Throughout 2011 fans want to know everything they can about the mysterious performer, model and muse.
He has been called "the ‘it’ muse for anyone who believes in a brave new world without judgment."

Zombie boy is practically a living and breathing work of fine art. He challenges are sensisblites about what we belive to be beautiful. I love things unique and different, and Rick Genest definitely is uncommon.
Here some more pics

Series 1-the fashion eccentrics of 2011

The prettiest boy in the world

Andrej Pejic is an eccentric model that has pushed the limits of what we have seen in the past as “acceptable”

His look is so jarringly feminine and shockingly beautiful; it has intrigued fashion’s most creative photographers, editors and designers (Jean Paul Gaultier). His look is really exciting and interesting that even if you wanted to appose the idea of a man exploiting his duality … his beauty is so undeniable you almost feel as if it is his right.

Andrej says “Couture. I would wear it to the supermarket — make a chore interesting, glamorize daily life,” he states. Additionally, he alludes to the fact that his style is “Golden Girls on crack.” We couldn’t agree more!

It's wonderful to see how much exposure he’s getting, I love this general idea that somehow he is breaking down a lot of expectations about gender expression and hopefully this helps other to become more opened minded.

Check out some of his pics.

Enjoy

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I was recently watching a documentary on YouTube by activist Jean Kilbourne called me "Killing us softly 4" ( the fourth installment to her award winning series of documentaries).

It highlights the subliminal messaging that media projects , and sure this is something we all know now a days and yet we are still so convinced that it doesn't impact us ( I'm guilty too) but the sad truth is that we've all been brought up in a pop culture-whirl-wind that exempts no-one from it's influence

I don't know a single woman/ girl who hasn't spent time scrutinizing one or more "flaw" and why shouldn't they there is an entire industry founded on looks.

Models aren't models because they're funny , smart or intelligent ( not to say that can't be or aren't) in the end the picture is all you see and sadly not all of us can live in an air brushed photo- not even the models.

Even in blogs , non of us are trying to be ourselves...we are trying to be what we have seen in ads, cool, edgy and fashionable.

From Facebook to twitter it's all about the picture and it's not even our own picture it's something we try to imitate that we've seen in TV or in a Magazine. Each album has been morphed (as if it was meant for Elle or Vogue) and  lets not forget the splurge of indie-processed-"vintage" camera shots with nothing indie about them.( Not to say that i don't love the vintage effect)

We all photoshop , fake smile, look for our best angle ( For me it's the left side LOL)  and not just any picture will do.

We even throw in the odd acquaintance  (kissing and hugging as if you are long lost best friends)as extras as we all want to copy-cat the "kodak moment".

and Yes I'm guilty of all of the above but at the end of the day this isn't the core problem though , it's respect for one's self and others and how we percieve ourselves and each other , it's important to know that fashion objectifies alot of things in the name of art and the awareness of this is imperative for a healthy self-image and i mean no-one is perfect and no-one is suppose to be.
I personally would hate to live in a world full of perfect people as it sounds awufully boring.

I personally believe in substance and style as it is a beautiful marriage.

SA'S UP AND COMING

TOYA DELAZY

I love everything about this Song.
It truly has the perfect ingredients:  Beat &Rhythm ; it's catchy and yet the lyrics are inspirational and uplifting.
Toya has mixed urban influences with pop culture which has resulted in something truly unique and original .

I'm very interested to see what she does next.

Is Nail Polish the New "It" Accessory?

Nails have become a major statement accessory. Colors and designs span the spectrum from classic to kooky.

The big trend in nails is that...... there is no big trend, almost anything goes. We are all different and nails are an area where you can take risks because it’s really not a big deal if you mess up. I personally love how we all concoct our own formulas.

Mix it up and just have fun because when it comes to nails …..There are no rules.

I <3 <3 how katy Perry shows us all that our nails are canvasses and we can be creative as we want ( painting your husbands face on your nails ....Pretty creative)

#BEHIND EVERY GREAT EDITOR

GRACE CODDINGTON

 Creative Director at American Vogue.
Vogue editor Anna Wintour calls her "our jewel in the crown"

Coddington's style is pulled off in a way that it makes vogue readers feel as if they are paging through a story book instead of just looking at models in pretty clothing.

When I page through her work in magazines she somehow creates a world of quirky , subtle magic that can translate to street style which we all love and adore and inspires us ( Especially
me) on a daily basis.
Grace’s ability to combine high fashion and whimsical story concepts is unmatched

The wizard of Oz

One of Grace’s most triumphed spreads is her Alice in Wonderland-themed piece
photographed by Leibovitz, featuring the gorgeous Russian model, Natalia Vodianova as Alice alongside the zany inhabitants of Wonderland played by famous fashion designers Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Tom Ford and Donatella Versace, among others.
